Women are innovators.

Women are categorically becoming one of the largest populations that are incarcerated at alarming rates. I know this for fact, because I was one of them . At that moment, I had a choice “let time do me”, or “I do time my way”. Like John Lewis, I got into good trouble and did my time my way. I used a strengths based approach to doing my time and focus on identifying assets and building on those to assets to promote positive change. To accomplish this , I turned inward and looked at resilience, transformation, empowerment and civic engagement.

Mission Statement:

Returning Her Home is dedicated to empowering and supporting women in their journey of reintegration into society after incarceration. Our mission is to provide a holistic and nurturing environment that fosters rehabilitation, independence, and community reconnection.

Vision Statement:

Our vision at Returning Her Home is a society where every woman released from prison has the opportunity and resources to rebuild her life with dignity and purpose. We envision a future where these women not only overcome the challenges of reentry but also become thriving, empowered members of their communities. Through our commitment to compassion, education, and community collaboration, we aim to create a world where the stigma associated with incarceration is replaced by understanding, support, and genuine opportunities for a brighter future.

Each woman that comes into our supportive housing will be asked to identify their positive qualities or strengths. We also ask them their weaknesses and draw a correlation with evidence base practices to create a Good Lives Model (GLM), which is a theoretical framework that works from a strengths based perspective. This framework allows the case managers and women use constructive and collaborative ways to work together and help them achieve prosocial and meaningful lives.

Each One ,Teach One, is our motto.
